Dakota Blue Richards was born 11 April 1994. She is an English actress. at the age of 13 she made her film debut in The Golden Compass as Lyra Belacqua, the main character. The character of April as a teenager who stumbles in Dustbin Baby, and Maria in The Secret of Moonacre in 2009 were also her lead roles. In 2011, she was Franky Fitzgerald, the third generation of the cast of the British teenager drama Skins. She has appeared in roles in film, television and stage. Richards was born at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Fulham Road, London. She was born in Sussex by her parents, then moved to Newlands School. After being a student at St Paul's Primary School, she went on to Blatchington Mill School, Hove and KBis Theatre School, Brighton. She later stated that she wanted to play Lyra. Ten thousand people applied for the auditions. Philip Pullman, the author of the series told the BBC that "As the moment came to see Dakota's screen-test, I realized that my search was over." Chris Weitz, the director said that Richards "made what should have been an extremely difficult decision a simple one.
